We did not have to, but here are three things to try before layoffs

Strategy #1: Furlough or Temporary Layoffs

What is it?
A furlough is mandatory unpaid time off work in which employees do not continue working. Temporary layoffs suspend employment for a specific period of time. Both scenarios require employees to stop all work for a company.

Delay Strategy #2: Executive Pay Cuts and Delayed or Reduced Employee Salaries

What is it?
Executive pay cuts occur when CEOs opt to take a temporary pay cut to lower costs, such as how airline CEOs from Delta CEO and United are responding to the COVID-19 crisis. Alternatively, companies are also considering temporarily delaying or reducing employee salaries while employees continue to work.

Strategy #3: Cut All Non-Essentials

What is it?
Creative companies are ruthlessly cutting all non-essential spending in order to redirect those funds to employee salaries. Some examples include:

  • Suspending all salary increases and bonuses across the organization
  • Eliminating benefits like commuter subsidy, free lunches and snacks, etc.
  • Reviewing monthly recurring expenses to see which tools and services can be consolidated or eliminated
  • Pausing the hiring process for new positions that have not yet been onboarded

What we are Doing to Keep You Safe -Covid-19

Broadway Cafe Owner continues to provide updates and share his thoughts surrounding the developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. In this edition "Ask Michael", he discusses how the Cafe is planning its menus, member perks and exclusive tea and coffee offerings as well as its events schedulings in an uncertain time.

Unlike other small  businesses, we have remained open due to our loyal customers amind COVID-19. Although customers can still come inside to order we certainly have seen an increase in our  the drive-thru window, sales.  We are fortunate that we have not had to layoff any employees.  And because of that we are providing perks for those who are working on the front lines.

“I felt it was,a good way for us to continue that mission, to continue what we do, helping others and recognizing that there is a lot of people in the community that do deserve recognition.

We call it the Hump Day special, every Wednesday night we will provide coffee to Everett General hospital ER Doctors and Nurses, and The Everett Police Department.

The Only way we are going to get through this Togetherness-and just maybe a cup of coffee!
